Study for more than 6 months, get free NHS Services

Health Services in the UK

Healthcare in the UK is carried out by the NHS (National Health Service).

Non EU Students are able to get free healthcare if they have enrolled on a course lasting more than 6 months.

Eye and dental care is also undertaken by the NHS and in most cases is chargeable. A small charge is made for medical prescriptions. However, no charge is made for optical and dental treatments or for prescriptions where the student is younger than 16 years old or for full-time students who are younger than 19 years old.

The minimum NHS cost of medical prescription is £8.80

Students are able to use the NHS from their first day in Scotland.

It is recommended that students register with a Surgery or GP (General Practitioner). We advise you not to wait until you are ill before registering with a GP. The documents that are required in order to register with a GP are your passport and a document which is proof that you are a student. This can be obtained from your school.
